Walking up to it for the first time, you’ll momentarily question if you are at the right place. The glass is smoked and you cannot see inside. Open the front door and you find yourself in the tap room at Out of Bounds Brewery. An open air, tall wood ceiling oasis with a gorgeous wooden bar made from 200 year old reclaimed pine, all furnished with some of the most amazing brews around coming out of shiney metal taps.
The Experience
- Great beer – made from whole cone hops – no over-processed pellets of lesser breweries
- Great atmosphere – vaulted ceilings big tables, large projector,
- Great people, consistent regulars of the mellow younger to older variety
- Live music on occasion
- Every Tuesday is Trivia game night.
- They even have many board and card games you can play with friends.
- In the open area you can play ping-pong or corn hole right next to the brewing tanks.
- Free Wifi – Come on beer and wifi- how are you not remotely working there?
These are but some of the reasons why Out of Bounds Brewery is one of our favorite hideouts and hangouts.

The Team
Bruce MacPhee is the brewmaster and he gets there early every day to make these great masterpieces. He spent 10 years at the famed, Deschutes Brewing Company in Bend, Oregon and has won multiple awards. He works directly with his old suppliers to get the best quality ingredients. No pellets in sight whole cone hops only for those who know beer. Bruce’s wife Katie runs and works the front tap room, marketing efforts and makes sure the end product tastes as great as it should.
The Food
Yes there’s food but don’t call it a restaurant. It’s a taproom with social real estate; beer culture at its finest with some tasty food options. Out of Bounds Brewery consistently has great food vendors who ensure hungry purveyors are fed quality food. The region’s best food truck offerings and trailer vendors make regular appearances. My favorite is the personal pizza by Bella Wood Fired Pizza, however all the vendors are good.
Directions & Arrival:
Coming from the I-80 freeway turn on Rocklin Road toward Pacific in the older area of Rocklin, make a right on Pacific Street turning down Yankee Hill Rd on the left, it looks like you are going into an industrial area and light office space. Perfect place for a brewery. As you turn the corner on the right you see several old train cars turned into an antique shop. Turn in the left hand side where the main landmark is the branded Out of Bounds truck and you realize you finally made it.
If you happen to see me there, be sure to say hello and I’ll buy you a round (as long as your 21 and up of course).
