According to studies by the Humane Society, 47% of households own at least one dog. Most of us treat our pets like members of the family. And when you’re on the move, you want to keep an eye out for amenities that are great for the whole family. Getting outside with your dog is not only healthy for your dog, it’s healthy for you and your family. In the Roseville area, three of the best dog parks are: Hughes Park, Bear Dog Park, and Rruff Dog Park at Johnson Springview Park. These parks also feature meandering trails and walking routes through five neighborhoods in the Roseville Area and we’ve dubbed them the most dog friendly.
1-3: Crocker Ranch, Blue Oaks, Diamond Creek
Hughes Park and The Pleasant Grove Creek Trail
Crocker Ranch, Blue Oaks, and Diamond Creek all surround Hughes Park which is a wonderful place for you and your pooch. This 35 acre park includes a 1.5 acre off-leash, fenced dog park with separate enclosures for large and small breeds. There is also a separate enclosures for dog training. It has turf, water access, a few chairs, some young trees for shade during the hot summer months, and is open year round. The park also features extensive walking/bike trails, two soccer fields, two lighted tennis courts and a basketball court, picnic areas with tables, play areas, swings, restrooms and creekside open space area. This park is located in the North Crocker Ranch area near Diamond Creek Elementary School.
Nearby is the La Provence Restaurant and Terrace great for a family picnic. You can go there and pick up your Take-Away Deli lunch for only $5.50.
Also in the area is the Pleasant Grove Creek Trail and Bike Path. This path is 2.9 miles and is dog friendly. If you are looking to go on a short hike or build healthy, active habits with your family and dog, this is the trail for you. You can easily spend a few hours with your family enjoying sights, sounds and playgrounds that connect to it. This is a great place to stretch your legs, play with your dogs and teach your kids to ride a bike. If you’re looking for a beautiful, open area to walk among oak trees, and see deer, turkey, quail, pheasants, and plenty of other wildlife, this is a great place for you!
4-9: Woodcreek Oaks, Quail Glen, Foothills Junction, Sun City and Pleasant Grove
Bear Dog Park and Mahany Park
Mahany Park is massive and connects to Mahany Library, Roseville Sports Center, The Roseville Aquatic Center, Woodcreek High School as well as Bear Dog Park. This 2 acre dog park has two separate areas to exercise dogs off-leash, one for large dogs and one for small dogs. Each area has an agility play area, walking trail and benches. Across the street is a shopping center with a Raley’s, Starbucks, Subway, Golden One Credit Union, Wells Fargo, and more. Also nearby is the Woodcreek Oaks Golf Course, Timber Creek Golf Course and Sun City Roseville.

10: Diamond Oaks
Diamond Oaks Park, The Fountains and Pet Food Express
Diamond Oaks is a neighborhood adjacent the Galleria and the best places to shop in town. The dog-friendly Fountains shopping center is an easy stroll down the street, on a trail and passes some parks along the way. In The Fountains is a place called Pet Food Express. It’s a great place to pamper your pooch. In this high end pet store, you can give your dog a bath and pick up premium treats and dog food. While you’re in that neck of the woods, you can also treat yourself to some gelato at Miabella Gelato or Frozen Yogurt at Big Spoon.
11-13: Maidu, Johnson Ranch, and Sierra Gardens
Maidu Park
Maidu Park is a great place to get you and your pooch in shape as you train for your next 10k or half marathon. You can run or walk the perimeter of the park or meander through the trail that winds through some oak and grass covered hills and open sports fields.
Honorable Mention: Johnson Springview Park – Rocklin, CA
This Rocklin community park is beautiful and offers up much to explore. It houses Rruff Dog Park, an off leash playground for your pup. Rocklin Residents Unite for Fido is the non-profit behind this park, providing a safe and innovative place for dog owners and their companions to enjoy. With obstacle courses, dog pool, large and small dog areas, benches, and plenty of shade, it’s a very comfortable and fun place to take your pet. Plus, the dog-safe ground covering means they can keep it open year round (and reduces the amount of time you spend hosing the mud off your dog). A special needs area also provides wheelchair access. The location within Johnson Springview Park gives you access to over 90 acres of open space with beautiful heritage oak trees, an 18-hole disc golf course, sand volleyball, playground, roller hockey, skate park, the Picnic Pavillion, and Community Center.
